Obituary of Lelan G. Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, Lelan G. Age 81 of Elmira, NY. He was born January 4, 1935 in Elmira, NY, son of the late George and Bessie (Smith) Montgomery and passed away Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Lelan was predeceased by his daughter, Lucinda "Cindy" in 2008, along with his sisters, Arnetta, Jean, Ethel, and Betty. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 40 years Norma (Cartledge) Montgomery; children, Richard (Dani) Copp, Kim Spencer, Daniel (Chae Hui) Copp, Anita (Fred) Beard; grandchildren, Don Brelsford, Jessica (Matt Morgan) Hootman, Andrew Hootman, Frederick (Courtney) Beard III, Eric Beard, Ambur Beard, Josh (Maria) Talbot, Bridget Chapman, Alexander Copp, Daniel "Shin" (Mikyong) Copp, James Copp, Marc Ashton, Kelly Copp, Jamie Spencer; several other grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lelan graduated from Southside High School in 1952, a member of the National Honor Society. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and retired from the Star Gazette after 35 years.
