Obituary of Winifred Jane Lyon

LYON, Winifred Jane age 90, passed away Thursday November 5, 2015. Winnie was born in Dundee, NY on October 14, 1925 to Maylon and Alyce (Schill) Elliott. She recently celebrated her 90th birthday with caregivers and family. Winnie was predeceased by brother Duane Elliott. Surviving are her children William Lyon and Daniel (Michelle) Lyon of Elmira, NY. After raising her children, Winnie went to work at the Elmira City School District until her retirement. She was an avid ice skater, always proud to be doing jumps at a later age! Winnie had a big love for all animals especially her faithful dogs and cats through the years. She thoroughly enjoyed her backyard flower garden. She especially loved her indoor plants; always trying to root something in dirt all year long! Winnie leaves behind her faithful feline companion "Noodles". The family would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to her caregivers. Sandy, Cindy and Anne devoted many kind hours to her care. They were instrumental in keeping Winnie in her "05 zip" home which she dearly loved. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service Saturday, November 14 at 4pm which will be held at the Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira. Deacon George Welch will officiate. Donations in Winnie's memory may be made to the East Smithfield Animal Sanctuary, PO Box A, East Smithfield, PA 18817
