Obituary of Antonia Owdienko
OWDIENKO, Antonia
Age 93 of Corning, NY. She was born December 5, 1921 in Ropytsia Ruska, Ukraine, daughter of the late Olexander and Stephania (Dzybon) Warian and passed away Friday, September 04, 2015. She was predeceased by her husband Michael on January 8, 2001, brother Stephan on September 15, 2005 and grandson Jason Garafalo on December 22, 2013 and is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Michael and Sondra of Corning; daughters and sons-in-law Halina and Ivan Jacobus of Corning, Irene and Donald Lough and Mary Anne and Ronald Garafalo both of Syracuse, NY; grandchildren James Owdienko, Michele (Gardner) Smith, Melissa Eighmey, Danielle Owdienko, Karen (Dan) Coon, Kathy Gonta, Jason Stirpe, Michael John (Laraine) Jacobus, Anne Marie Jacobus, Ivy Jacobus, Donald (Esther) Lough, Michael Lough, Stephanie, Nicholas, Samantha and Alexander Garafalo, Kim (Larry) Mathews, Stacey (David) Abbott; 18 great grandchildren. Mrs. Owdienko was a communicant of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, member of the church choir and a long time pyrohy maker at the church. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time with and cooking for her family. She especially loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Tuesday, September 8th from 10 to 11:30 am. Prayers will be offered there at 11:30 am followed by Divine Liturgy at 12 noon in St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. Rev. Robert J. Batcho, Celebrant. Committal prayers and interment will follow in St. Nicholas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may remember Antonia through donations to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. A special thank you to Betsy and Marissa Thrower and Ann Stafford for their tender loving care and to the staff of Elcor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
