Obituary of Geoffrey W. Sayers

SAYERS, Geoffrey W. Age 81 of Elmira, NY. He was born December 20, 1933 in Waverly, NY, son of the late Thomas Gray Sayers and Pearl (Worden) Sayers-Digby and passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015 at home. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia A. (Palladino) Sayers; children Gregory (Alison) Sayers of Bella Coola, BC, Canada, Christopher (Monika) Sayers of Elmira, Rebecca Sayers-Koski of Elmira, Thomas (Debra Lazinsky) Sayers of Newfield, NY and G. Matthew Sayers (Darla Hall) Elmira; grandchildren, Loren, Chloe, Nicholas, Catherine, Henry, Rocco, Robin and Makia; brother Jonathan (Tina) Sayers of Geneva; nieces, Pamela and Mary. A proud graduate of EFA class of 1951, later attended Alfred State University, member of the Beta Gamma Fraternity. He retired in 1990 from the US Postal Service in Elmira as Supervisor of Mails. In retirement, he drove athletic busses for Elmira College, enjoying the Soaring Eagles Woman’s Hockey Team. He was an avid golfer and longtime member of the Mark Twain Golf Course, first starting the game as a caddy, and continued with his Saturday golfing partners. He was a life member of B.P.O.E. #62, Elmira for 50 years, treasuring daily afternoon conversation with good friends. He is fondly remembered by his loving family for his patience, wit and intellect. His love of reading, especially biographies, was balanced with healthy doses of NY Times crossword puzzles. Family visits and vacations were his greatest pleasure, from the early camping trips to Chenango & Green Lakes State Park, to recent spring breaks spent on the Outer Banks, NC. As an honorable man, he leaves us with many gifts and cherished memories, most notable was to always do the right thing. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. & Washington Ave., Elmira, on Tuesday, June 23rd, from 4 to 7 pm. His Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Lourdes Church will take place on Wednesday, June 24th at 10:00 am. Rev. Scott Kubinski Celebrant.
