MCCARTHY, Thomas P.
Age 91 of Horseheads, NY.
He was born May 2, 1923 in Bakerton, PA, son of the late Thomas Richard and Anna E. (Stefenik) McCarthy and passed away Sunday, April 12, 2015 at home. In addition to his parents, Thomas was predeceased by his grandson, William. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 66 years, Helen McCarthy, his children; Bonnie Dibble of Horseheads, Patrick McCarthy of NC, and Kathleen McCarthy of NC, his dear grandchildren; Karen, Sara, Matthew, Kelly, Shawn, Thomas, Douglas and Megan; his 9 great-grandchildren with another on the way, along with several nieces and nephews. Mr. McCarthy served with the Marine Corps in the South Pacific during WWII. He went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree from Elmira College, during which he worked as a dispatcher for the Pennsylvania Railroad. Tommy was an honorable man who supported his family while attending night school to earn his degree. He retired from New York State where he was employed as a Bank Examiner. He was a great role model to his children; a man of courage, dignity, and unwavering loyalty to his family. The entire family relied on him for his skillful carpentry. He was truly a man who embodied the Marine Corps motto, "Semper Fi"
Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake Street., at Washington Ave., Elmira on Friday, April, 17th from 12 to 1 PM. A memorial service will be held there at 1:00 pm. Private interment will be at Woodlawn National Cemetery at the wishes of the family. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, those wishing can make a donation to the Elmira American Legion, 316 Lake Street, Elmira 14901
