Obituary of Mary F. Murphy

MURPHY, Mary F. Age 94 of Elmira, NY. She was born December 2, 1919 in Elmira, daughter of the late James and Jeanette (Nelan) Murphy and passed away Monday, March 24, 2014 at Bethany Manor. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Elizabeth J. Murphy. Mary is survived by her special cousins and caregivers Margie and Beth Stein; cousins Clifford and Nancy Murphy, Eugene and Dorothy Murphy; very cherished and dear friends William and Marian Heisler and her canine buddy Gus. Mary had an enormous heart of gold which far outweighed her diminutive stature. Her kind and giving nature were evident by the many hours donated to volunteer work and the benevolence to the church and various charities. Her quick wit and infectious smile will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her. She was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Parish, attending the former St. Cecilia's Church and currently attending Ss. Peter & Paul Church. She retired in 1980 as Dietitian at the VA Hospital in Batavia, NY. Family and friends are invited to her prayer service on Thursday, March 27th at 9:30 am at Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Ss. Peter & Paul Church. Rev. Richard Farrell, Celebrant. Committal prayers and interment will follow in St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may remember Mary through donations to the City of Elmira Animal Shelter, 842 Linden Pl.
