Obituary of Vera Michalko

MICHALKO, Vera Age 85 of Elmira, NY. She was born June 28, 1928 in Wiconisco, PA, daughter of the late Wasyl and Mary (Matzko) Leshko and passed away Thursday, March 6, 2014 at home surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her husband Walter in 1998; brothers Nick, Walter, Leo and Michael; sisters Anna Zerby and Pauline Houtz. Vera is survived by her nine children Marilyn (Robert) Cusick, Walter (Cheryl) Michalko, Robert (Cherie) Michalko, Peter (Ann Marie) Michalko and Thomas Michalko all of Elmira, Greg (Gilson Pereira) Michalko of Boston, MA, Paul (Lois) Michalko of Fairport, NY, Lynmarie (James) Chapman and Barbara Michalko all of Colorado Springs, CO; 13 grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter; sister Martha Davis; brother Paul Leshko both of Harrisburg, PA ; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Joseph (Alyce) Michalko of Elmira, Beverly Michalko of Horseheads, Stella Michalko of Elmira and Helen Michalko of Rochester, NY along with several nieces and nephews. Vera was a member of Holy Trinity Orthodox Christian Church. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Monday, March 10th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Memorial service (Panikhyda) will be held at 7:30 pm. Prayers will be offered there on Tuesday, March 11th at 9 am, followed by her funeral service at 9:30 am in Holy Trinity Orthodox Christian Church, 137-139 Horseheads Blvd., Elmira Heights. Rev. Jason Kappanadze will officiate. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Holy Trinity Orthodox Cemetery.
