The Life Story of Isaac Williams
Isaac "Ike" Williams was born October 26, 1939 to the late Louise Williams Walker in Burke County, Georgia. He was raised by his maternal grandparents, the late Lindsey & Myrtle Williams. Isaac was preceded in death by his mother, Louise Williams Walker, stepfather Willie Walker Sr., sister Veronica Walker, and stepsister Alavan Walker.
As he grew up in Burke County, at an early age Isaac was baptized at Rosier Grove Baptist Church. He received his education at Florence Grove Elementary and Waynesboro High schools. After his schooling, Isaac moved to St. Petersburg and then to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida where he lived and worked until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1961. He served his tour of duty and received his honorable discharge in 1964 and settled in Elmira, New York. In Elmira he worked and eventually started his own business, Williams Janitorial Service, where he worked and managed until his health no longer allowed him to do so.
Isaac's life story is one of hard work. As a child growing up in rural Georgia, he worked the fields just as so many others did during those times. During family gatherings he and his cousins (Winifred and Rebecca) who grew up with him shared stories of his hard work and how little he was paid, yet it went toward helping the grandparents to support the family.
Over the years, Isaac cherished his memories of visits to Ft. Lauderdale, and especially the Thanksgiving gatherings he attended in Atlanta, Georgia for 20 years up until 2019. In 2019 during the Thanksgiving gathering, Isaac and his cousins who grew up with him were honored as the oldest Williams descendants. The younger family members in attendance appreciated the opportunity to understand how they are connected to family.
Isaac is survived by his daughters Jennifer Elayne Howard, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Alanna Nikole Williams, Elmira, NY; daughter-in-love Regina Wells, Albany, NY, and their mother Betty Wells, Elmira; brother Willie Walker Jr., Ft. Lauderdale, FL; sister Dorothy Walker, Atlanta, GA; grandchildren: Jocelayna (Desmond) Howard-Johnson and Jalethea Howard, Atlanta, GA; Christopher Isaac Williams and Ciara Jean Sanchez, Elmira, NY; great-grandchildren: Jha'vier Christopher Isaac Williams, Trinity Marie Baldwin and Cadence Sarae Johnson; very special cousin Rebecca Williams, Ft Lauderdale, FL and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins in Florida and Georgia; lifelong friends Rev. Johnny Vaughn, Henry Graham and Willie Graham all of Elmira. (Nieces: Tanisha Scott and son Jordan Scott, Ft. Lauderdale; Rachel Hart and children Jamillah Hart, Jeremy Hart, Aaliyah Anderson, and Taylor Smith; and grandchild Rhyleigh Dale.)
