Obituary of Odis E. Seals Sr.
Odis Eugene Seals Sr., affectionately known to family and friends as "Gene", was born January 27, 1933, in Charleston, West Virginia to parents Elvin Sr. & Lucille Seals.
The Lord deemed it timely to call Odis Sr. from our midst on March 8, 2024.
He served in the United States Army receiving an Honorable Discharge, after 4 years of military service. He retired from Clute Ford Motors where he worked as a mechanic by trade. He was well known as a jack of all trades and was always willing to help anyone who needed carpentry, roofing and any home remodeling. In later years he participated in The Big Brother Program helping those in need.
He loved his Dallas Cowboys Football Team, Boating, Fishing, and Traveling. He became an avid bowler playing on numerous leagues where he collected quite a few bowling trophies. He was an avid coin collector as well. He loved spending time with relatives and friends and just being Gene. His departure is a deep and personal loss to his family and friends and he will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elvin Sr. & Lucille, married to his wife Mildred, for 60 years, who preceded him in death on July 4, 2012 and sons Odis Jr and Terrence, He was one of five children who all preceded him in death, brothers Elvin Jr. and Elmer, sisters Mabel and Genevieve.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: daughters: Brenda Walker; Sandra Clark Kaddy (James); Deborah Beckett (Ronald); Rhoda Haven-Beckman; Pamela Filley (David); Audrey Irish (Alfred); sons; Kevin Seals (Suzanne); Elvin Seals III, daughter-in-law; Barbara Seals. He has a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends.
He also leaves to cherish memories a very special someone Ms. Margaret Bonner and a very special friend Dick.
Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Saturday, March 16th from 12 to 1 pm. His funeral service will begin at 1 pm. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
