Obituary of Janice Mae Keller
Age 85, of Elmira, NY. She was born September 13, 1938, in Geneva, NY, the daughter of Jennings and Thelma (Decker) Stanton. She passed away at home Friday, January 5, 2024. She was predeceased by both parents, her son Charles L. Keller Jr., brothers, Mervin and Marvin Stanton; sister, Joyce Cain. Janice is survived by her brother, Lynn Stanton; sister, Linda (Stanton) Wood; daughter Rachel (Keller) Bradley; grandchildren, Maximus Keller, Alexandra Keller and Evanna Bradley; uncle, Howard Stanton (99) of Texas; along with several close cousins, nieces, nephews and special friends. Confidante to many and mom to others, Janice often had the coffee on and ears at the ready for those needing to chat. Her "other" children, who spent nights in her home, could tell you of 1am goulash and cards around the kitchen table. In her twenties and thirties, she could be found outside playing kick the can, red rover, red light/green light, and volleyball with her nieces and nephews. She loved crafting with friends and her favorite craft was needlepoint. Many crosses adorn the walls of family and friends. After her children were grown, she found herself with time on her hands. She spent many hours volunteering with RSVP, Meals on Wheels, the Blind Shop of Elmira and as kitchen help within the building of the Flannery Towers. Her joy in life were her children and grandchildren. She was tough, but loved with her whole heart. Her grandchildren were the center of her world. She loved sharing stories of yesterdays, making their favorite dishes of tuna noodle casserole or mac & cheese, baking cakes on their birthdays, going to ball games, recitals, and concerts. Her favorite pastime with friends and family was playing marbles aka Aggravation, Farkle, or Phase 10. Her ever-famous statements were "You A**hole!" or "Bite Me." If you would like to donate in honor of Janice, please think of giving to Meals on Wheels 409 Williams Street Elmira, NY 14901. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Walter J. Kent Funeral Home is assisting the Keller family.
