Obituary of Charles Philip Turner
On January 5, 2023, Charles Phillip Turner, 68, died peacefully in his sleep during a holiday visit with family in Texas. After spending Thanksgiving and Christmas with his brother, Robert Turner, his wife Kit, and their extended family, Chuck had decided to extend the visit until spring. Chuck was born August 23, 1954 to Perry Clark Turner and Veronica (Dzikowski) Turner. They both preceded him in death. His relationship with his mother was so special and devoted. In Veronica's final years, Chuck delighted in caring for her, driving her around Elmira to bingo parlors and beyond. Chuck was an avid sports enthusiast answering almost any sports question. He enjoyed driving to area softball games. His favorite sports team was the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, but he followed many college teams and players. He loved following NASCAR racing boards. His friends and family knew that Chuck also loved a good meal – his favorite: steamed clams. Chuck never met a stranger. He never went anywhere without running into someone he knew. Chuck had the ability to make everyone feel special and important. His last months were filled with exceptional joy because he was able to spend the days spoiling his nieces, Kendra and Kirstin, and Kirstin's young children. From selling ice cream as a child to visiting friends via drive-by's to talking sports at the White Eagle, Chuck always seemed happy just enjoying life's simple pleasures. Friends of Chuck are invited to share in the Celebration of Chuck's life to be held on February 25th at the White Eagle Club, 364 Millard Street, from 2:00 to 5:00PM. Walter J. Kent Funeral Home is assisting the Turner family.
