Obituary of Carol Ann Shrout
Age 62 of Elmira, NY died on Monday, June 6, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer. Carol was born on January 15, 1960 in Elmira, NY to Marjorie and Robert Blunt. She grew up in the Big Flats area and graduated from Horseheads High School in 1978. Carol's career involved working at various agencies throughout her life. Her time at Elmira College (Supervisor of Housekeeping) and Catholic Charities Second Place East Homeless Shelter brought her the most satisfaction. She took great pride in her work and had a stellar work ethic. Carol loved to do crafts and created gorgeous wreaths and flower arrangements. She truly enjoyed her DD coffee and a coffee cake or two when she sat down to relax. One of her favorite dishes was lasagna that her brother-in-law Mike Schuld made. All agreed Carol's macaroni and cheese was the best! Carol was devoted to her family and would provide any and all support to each one of them. She was her dad's primary caregiver when he became ill, lovingly tending to him and all his needs 24/7. Carol was a woman who gave to others despite having to go without for herself. She faced numerous challenging health issues and never complained. She met the challenges head on and fought like a warrior against each one. Her courage, strength and determination were endless. A special thank you to Dr. Laura Llinas-Lux who was of tremendous support and professional guidance over the years. Carol had a deep love for her cats and they brought her much happiness. She referred to them as her "babies." Her cat Snowball is deaf and they created a unique unbreakable loving bond that is so precious. The loss of Carol will leave Snowball broken hearted. Carol enjoyed the beach where she would get "grounded" and relax to soothing sights and sounds of the ocean. She put her bare feet in the sand and enjoyed the smell of the ocean. Carol is survived by her two children, Dan Blunt of Elmira Heights and Melissa Shrout of Elmira; grandchildren Mikayla and Josh Blunt; sisters Cathleen (Mike) Schuld of FL and Rebecca Blunt of Big Flats; brother Michael (Sue) Blunt of Horseheads; nieces and nephews Jessica Schuld, Michelle Schuld Morgan, Sydney Blunt, Chad Blunt, Dylan Blunt, Cameron Blunt, and Connor Blunt. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Robert Blunt and grandson Corbin Pautz. There will be a private family celebration at a later date. Friends and family wishing to honor Carol may consider donations to a local SPCA. Carol will be missed every day and never forgotten. Arrangements by Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, Elmira.
