Black, Kevin W.
Age 40 of Essex, VT, formerly of Big Flats, NY. He was born November 13, 1981 in Elmira, NY, the son of Max and Sharon (Lentz) Black, and passed away Sunday, May 8, 2022 unexpectedly. He is survived by his wife Karrie (Wheaton); son Lukas Black; daughter Rebekah Black; his parents; brother and sister-in-law Matthew & Rachel Black with their children Madelyn & Camden; sister and brother-in-law Jennifer & James Eastman with children Noah Bosket and Bradock Salisbury; grandmother Linda Black-Casbeer; father-in-law and mother-in-law Donald & Geralyn Wheaton; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jennifer & Cory Alverson with daughter Ella along with aunts, uncles, cousins and many family and friends. Kevin was a Supervisory Special Agent with the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). He received his Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2004, Master of Public Administration from the State University of New York, University at Albany in 2009. Kevin reached the rank of Captain in the United States Marine Corps and served as a Combat Engineer Officer. He completed a tour in Afghanistan. Semper Fidelis. At the age of 16, Kevin earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He received 3 DEA Awards: 2011 LEAD Award, 2013 DEA Special Agent of the Year Award, 2015 Outstanding Performance Award. Kevin loved God, family, friends, his dog, helping people and making his community better, hiking and of course beer with an occasional cigar. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Sunday, May 22nd from 10 am to 1 pm. His memorial service and military honors will follow at 1 pm.
