Obituary of Daniel Stroman

Daniel Stroman, after extended illness, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2013. He is preceded in death by his parents Mildred Stroman and Daniel Biggers and a nephew Marlon Stroman all of Elmira, NY. He is survived by his life long companion Lori Boor, the mother of his son, Daniel E. Stroman, III, and his brothers and sisters: Samuel L. Stroman, Havre de Grace, MD; Ethel Stroman, Elmira, NY; Michael Stroman, Johnson City, NY; Margaret (Steve) Credle, Havre de Grace, MD; Yvonne Stroman, Reading, PA; Marie Stroman, Havre de Grace, MD; Matthew Stroman, Elmira, NY. Other siblings are Anthony Biggers Pugh, Goose Creek, SC; Candy Biggers of Florida, Pillar Biggers Sanders of Texas, Scott Biggers of California. Daniel, known to his siblings as "Junior" was born and raised in Elmira, NY, attended Prep School in New Milford, Ct. and Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. He was a former employee of United Cerebral Palsy, Horseheads, NY. Insights Into the Life of Daniel Stroman, Jr. Danny became involved with sports at a young age. He played on several small fry teams and participated in Jr. High and Sr. High athletics. His primary sports were boxing, baseball, basketball, and football. This love for sports remained with him throughout adulthood. He was also an avid reader of the newspaper, especially the New York Post on daily basis. Danny was personable and hardly met a stranger. "Everybody" knew him, or he knew "everybody". If he REALLY knew you, then came the greeting! As many of his friends can tell you, Danny had a nickname for just about everybody. Names like "Smokin' Gun", extra piece, Sam "go-fer", "Mighty Jo Young", "Klondike", "Head Quarters", Mighty Clouds, "the Hawk", and "Chrome Magnum". Danny was the ultimate giver in that he took the time to help others he saw in need. The purchase of a car - getting a better deal than 1st offered; break down along side of the road - stopped to give a stranger a helping hand; oth-ers incarcerated - source of wisdom of how not to return. The love of Danny's life was his relationship with his son Daniel III "Bumpy". You did not have a conversation with Danny and not get to a point where Bumpy became the center of the conversation. In fact, they walk alike, talk alike, and even look alike. Bumpy relates that as a father, his dad always kept him out of trouble. It wasn't always easy, but he was determined to raise him well. He wanted Bumpy to have a better life than he led. He was faithful in attending games, concerts, parent conferences, holiday celebrations, vacations and knowing Bumpy's overall whereabouts at all times. He was affectionate and always verbally expressed his love. Bumpy states, "One of the funniest memories I have of dad is a time when he was going to spank me and he stepped on one of my army men - which was about 3 to 4 inches tall. He yelled so loud and then fell into the chair in pain. Needless to say, that's one spanking I got out of." "When I was pulled from JV lacrosse to Varsity, my dad told me that he was really proud of me." This I will never forget. Long time friends Earnest Harvard, Gregory Jones, Larry Jones, Clyde Stroman, Lacey Fulmer, Ron Hughey (Cuz) remained connected with Danny in various ways. To him, their friendship was like that of brothers. Danny could not adequately express his appreciation for the love and care given him by his long time friend, Lori Boor. For this we are thankful.
