Obituary of Lillian J. Williams

Lillian Hurst Williams passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021. She was born on March 8, 1925 in Elmira, NY, daughter of the late Harold and Dorothy Hurst. She had 3 loving sisters, Dorothy, Jean Marie and Phyllis; 6 loving brothers Harold, Robert John (Jackie), Douglas, Alan (Bruce) and Marshal. Lillian was educated in the Elmira City School System Lillian United in marriage with the love of her life, James Whitter Williams and in this union 4 children were born; James, Jr., Gregory, Charlene (Wendy) and Deborah. Lillian would work in the family owned flower shop "Williams Florist" with her husband and sons and learned the trade just watching and helping her husband. Lillian had an unwavering faith in God. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church for over 50 years. She would help at Grace for many fundraisers and as she retired she would take her communion at home. Lillian's life work: Florist at family owned Williams Florist Beecher School PTA President Brownie Leader Den Mother for Cub Scouts Volunteer for March of Dimes Election volunteer Treasurer for George Bragg Towers Head of Dining at George Bragg Towers Member of Eastern Star Member of NAACP A wonderful mother, homemaker, community volunteer and a devoted Christian. She leaves to cherish her memory 2 daughters Charlene (Wendy) VanDunk and Deborah Curry; grandchildren Whitney Williams-Gravely, Leslie Williams, Andrea Williams, Jammie Williams, Danette VanDunk, Heidi Fischer, Cortney Curry and Rochelle Curry; 8 great grandchildren; 1 great, great grandchild; daughter-in-law Dorothy Williams and a host of nieces and nephews. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.
