Obituary of Blanche M. Derr

DERR, Blanche Mae Age 72 of Elmira, NY. She was born October 4, 1940 in Elmira, daughter of the late Lawrence and Edna (Hammond) Sheive and passed away Monday, July 8, 2013 peacefully at home surrounded by close family, after a brief, yet courageous battle with cancer. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her older sister Doris Sheive (Nelson) and her loving husband Ronald Derr. Ron and Blanche lived on Oneida Road where they raised three daughters in a rural setting complete with horses, gardens, wood burning stove and home cooked meals, reminiscent of a time long past. Blanche was a long time employee of Banfield-Baker where she worked nearly half her life. She was the slender built, dirt under her nails lady with a twinkle in her eye that knew the answer to the question you came to ask. Blanche is survived by her daughter and best friend Rene DiBartolomeo with husband Nick; daughters Donna Derr and Debbie Dougherty. Blanche was also blessed with several grandchildren, great grandchildren, special cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of enlightened gardeners and lawn-care enthusiasts. She will be sorely missed. At her request, there will be no public services. However, those wishing, may remember Blanche by donating to any animal shelter.
