Maraya was born on September 21, 1988 in Elmira, NY to parents Raymond and Marquetta (Knox) Powell. She graduated from Horseheads HS in 2006 and attended Tompkins Cortland Community College until 2008 where she studied Hotel and Restaurant management and met her fiancé Tariq Macklin. She was employed with Guthrie Health Care of Horseheads for five years. Maraya loved to dance since the age of 13 and could light up a room with her bright and beautiful smile. She was predeceased by her mother, Marquetta Knox and is survived by her son Naji Macklin, fiancé Tariq Macklin (both of Horseheads); her father Raymond Powell of Horseheads; sister Maranda Stroman and brothers Stanley C. Stroman and Marson Johnson; and many extended family members and friends. Anyone who knew Maraya knew that she was compassionate, supportive, always a source of positivity and the most amazing mother to her son. She lived her life authentically and loved unconditionally. Maraya inspired and touched the hearts of many and will be missed more than words can say. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Saturday, February 6th from 3 to 5 pm. Her memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
