Obituary of Thomas J. Sloniger

SLONIGER, Thomas J. (Jim) "TJ", "Sluggo" Age 72 of Horseheads, NY. He was born April 2, 1941 in Elmira, son of Thomas and Charlotte (Tucker) Sloniger and passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He was predeceased by his mother Charlotte Ballard and is survived by his children Karen Summers with children Angela Short and Ryan Summers of Horseheads, David Sloniger with children Kayla and Justin Sloniger of High Point, NC; father Thomas Sloniger of Elmira; siblings Janet Scarnecchia, Rita Rodgers, Peter Ricardo and Donna Isaacs; longtime friend and companion Joan McGinley and several nieces and nephews. Jim had a proud career serving many years in the U. S. Navy and Naval Reserves until his retirement. He was a long time member of the American Legion Clarence R. Oliver Post 154, Elmira Heights and Vice President of Post 154 Corporation Board. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Saturday, May 25th from 12 to 3 pm. His funeral service will follow at 3 pm. Interment, with military honors, will take place in Bath National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
