We met Nellie, son Dr. Charles Jennings and his daughter Seneca in 2003, the 100th anniversary of the Village of Odessa. The main celebration was one of diversity honoring ancestors and those with roots in Odessa, the Town of Catharine, Montour Falls, Watkins Glen and vicinity. It was a great gathering with many meeting for the first time, and from many places.
Nellie's residence as a child with her grandparents in Odessa happened to be one where my ancestors lived before them, in the 1800s. So we shared in that connection. It was an honor to meet Nellie, her son and granddaughter. They very much added to the meaningful event. Now we honor her rich legacy and that of her husband Chuck.
Our tribute to Nellie's life is offered as a very warm memory of 2003 that stays with us, and with prayers for family as they grieve for the earthly loss of this precious soul, who is now in the embrace of eternal love.
