Obituary of Frances L. Osteen
OSTEEN, Frances L. (Scheid)
Age 82 of Elmira, NY. She was born September 10, 1933 in Elmira, NY, daughter of the late Karl V. and Helen (Hanna) Scheid and passed away surrounded by her family Wednesday, March 16, 2016. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband of over 30 years, Paul H. Osteen Sr.; son, Paul H. Osteen Jr.; granddaughter, Jessica E. Osteen; brother, Lawrence J. (Joyce) Scheid; and beloved uncle, Frank Scheid. She is survived by her children; Patricia Osteen and Tracy (Gary) Courtney; daughter-in-law, Mary Osteen; grandchildren, Christina M. Osteen, Paul K. Osteen and Emily E. (Chuck Haner) Osteen; great grandchildren, Tyler J. Osteen, Amelia L. Osteen, and Zoey I. Haner; longtime friend, Bernadette Floyd, and her dear cat, Honey Cat. Frances attended both Southside High School and Mount Union High School, She retired from Elmira City School District where she worked as a Bus Aide for over 30 years after nearly 15 years at American La France. She also contributed articles and poems to the Star Gazette, served as a Girl Scout Leader, Cub Scout Assistant Leader, and worked at the Steel Memorial Library as a Page for a few years. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved spending time with her family at picnics and teaching her great grandchildren about music. She was avid bowler for over 20 years, as well as a history buff who loved to read. Frances was an animal lover who donated to save wolves. She always appreciated her granddaughter Emily driving her everywhere and spending time with her. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira, on Saturday, March 19th from 4 pm to 6 pm and Sunday, March 20th from 1 pm to 2pm. Her memorial service will follow at 2pm. Committal prayer and interment will take place with her family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make donations in Frances' name to the Chemung County SPCA, 2435 State Route 352, Elmira, NY 14903, or the Steel Memorial Library, c/o Friends of CCLD, 101 East Church Street, Elmira, New York 14901; two of her greatest passions.
